New Delhi, Delhi, India
A fresh political controversy has erupted following remarks attributed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, with Union Minister Harsh Malhotra launching a strong counterattack and demanding legal action.
Speaking in New Delhi, Malhotra accused the Congress leadership of using inflammatory language for electoral gains. “To win elections, they will do anything, behaving as though there is no constitution or law,” he said, alleging that such statements could have serious consequences for public order.
He further escalated his criticism by claiming that such rhetoric could provoke unrest. “They can incite riots or even order killings to secure victory,” Malhotra stated, expressing concern over what he described as dangerous political discourse.
Referring specifically to Kharge’s remarks, the Union Minister said that the Congress President had used controversial language to describe the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party. He alleged that calling these organisations “venomous snakes” reflects an intent to incite tension and unrest.
Taking the matter forward, Malhotra confirmed that a delegation had approached law enforcement authorities. “We met the Delhi Police Commissioner today and demanded strict legal action, including registering an FIR,” he said, indicating that the issue has now moved into the legal domain.
The remarks come amid heightened political tensions, with both ruling and opposition parties engaging in sharp exchanges over statements, governance, and electoral strategies. While BJP leaders have condemned the language used by the Congress leadership, the opposition has often accused the ruling party of politicizing such issues.
Authorities are expected to review the complaint and take appropriate steps as per legal provisions. The development adds to the growing list of political flashpoints in the run-up to key elections across states.
The episode highlights the increasingly intense political rhetoric in the country, raising questions about the limits of public discourse and the role of accountability in maintaining democratic decorum.
