Delhi, India : In a remarkable celebration of fitness, unity, and national pride, the Soldierathon 2026 marathon was successfully held in Delhi, drawing an overwhelming participation of more than 27,000 people. The event, organised in collaboration with Punjab National Bank and supported by the Indian Armed Forces, took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium as part of a larger initiative to promote health awareness and honour the spirit of the nation’s soldiers.
Mizoram Governor General VK Singh (Retd), who was present at the event, highlighted the significance of the marathon and its broader objective. He stated that the initiative was conducted under the Fit India Campaign with the aim of encouraging citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles and remain physically active.
He emphasized that the growing participation reflects a rising awareness among people about the importance of fitness and self care in today’s fast paced life.
The Soldierathon is widely recognised as more than just a sporting event. It is a tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the Indian Armed Forces. Conceived as a platform to bridge the gap between civilians and the military, the marathon seeks to instill a sense of patriotism while simultaneously promoting physical well being.
This year’s edition in Delhi was held under the theme “Run With Soldiers, Run For Soldiers,” reinforcing the message of solidarity with the armed forces. The marathon also marked celebrations linked to Punjab National Bank’s 132nd Foundation Day, adding further significance to the occasion.
Participants from diverse backgrounds, including students, professionals, defence personnel, and fitness enthusiasts, gathered in large numbers to take part in various race categories. The event featured multiple segments, including a 5 kilometre run for beginners, a 10 kilometre timed race, and a challenging half marathon of over 21 kilometres, catering to runners of all levels.
The massive turnout of over 27,000 participants turned the marathon into a powerful symbol of collective endurance, unity, and national consciousness. The atmosphere at the venue reflected enthusiasm and determination, as runners carried forward the message of health, discipline, and respect for the armed forces.
General VK Singh further noted that spreading awareness about fitness is essential for building a stronger and healthier nation. He stressed that initiatives like Soldierathon play a crucial role in motivating people to take responsibility for their physical well being while also fostering a deeper connection with the country’s defenders.
The event also served as a reminder of the importance of community participation in national causes. With its blend of fitness, patriotism, and public engagement, Soldierathon 2026 stood out as a significant movement that brought together citizens in a shared spirit of resilience and unity.
