Rahul Gandhi Flags Off ‘Run for Ambedkar’ Marathon, Launches Sharp Attack Over Constitution Debate…

Date:

NEW DELHI, INDIA — The national capital witnessed a politically charged atmosphere as the ‘Run for Ambedkar, Run for Constitution – Marathon 2026’ was flagged off, turning into a platform not only for public participation but also for a sharp ideological confrontation over the legacy of the Constitution and its chief architect.

Leading the event, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi inaugurated the marathon, which aimed to promote awareness about constitutional values and the enduring vision of equality and justice. The event saw participation from a large number of citizens, particularly youth, symbolizing a collective commitment toward safeguarding democratic principles.

Addressing the gathering, Rahul Gandhi invoked the ideals of B. R. Ambedkar, stating that his central message was rooted in the Constitution and the principle of equality for all citizens. He emphasized that Ambedkar’s vision was to create a framework where every individual, irrespective of background, would have equal rights and opportunities.

In a strongly worded statement, Gandhi alleged that those aligned with the ideologies of RSS and BJP are attempting to undermine both Ambedkar’s legacy and the Constitution itself. He claimed that such forces do not support the idea of equality across society and are working, directly or indirectly, against the foundational principles laid down in the Constitution.

He further remarked that symbolic gestures, including paying respects at Ambedkar’s statues, should not be used as a façade. According to him, even acts that appear respectful on the surface can, in certain contexts, mask intentions that contradict the true spirit of the Constitution. His comments added a sharp political edge to an event otherwise centered on awareness and unity.

The marathon, while rooted in the objective of spreading constitutional awareness, thus became a stage for broader political messaging. Participants, however, largely echoed the importance of understanding the Constitution and preserving its core values, reflecting a sense of civic responsibility.

The event highlighted how the legacy of the Constitution continues to remain at the center of India’s political discourse, with competing narratives shaping the national conversation on democracy, equality, and governance.
