Rajasthan Assembly Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully raised serious concerns over what he described as ongoing attacks on constitutional institutions, while also questioning the timing of the Women’s Reservation Bill amid ongoing elections.
Speaking in Delhi, Tikaram Jully alleged that there is a systematic attempt to weaken the Constitution and undermine independent institutions. He claimed that agencies meant to function autonomously are being misused, raising concerns about their neutrality and functioning.
He alleged that continuous attacks are being made on the Constitution and that a conspiracy is underway to weaken it.
Jully also targeted the functioning of the Election Commission of India, alleging that it is working under the influence of the government. According to him, such a situation raises serious questions about the fairness of the electoral process.
He claimed that the Election Commission is working at the government’s behest, calling it a violation of constitutional principles.
In addition, Tikaram Jully questioned the timing of discussions around the Women’s Reservation Bill, pointing out that elections are currently being held in states like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. He suggested that bringing such a significant legislative issue during the election period raises concerns.
He said that introducing or pushing the Women’s Reservation Bill while the Model Code of Conduct is in place during elections is questionable.
Jully’s remarks come at a time when the Women’s Reservation Bill remains a key topic in national political discourse, with leaders from different parties expressing varying views on its implementation and timing.
