NEW DELHI, INDIA — Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Chirag Paswan has strongly criticised Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his recent speech in Parliament, expressing disappointment over its tone and content.

Speaking in Delhi, Paswan alleged that Rahul Gandhi had lowered the dignity of the post of Leader of Opposition, stating that certain remarks made during the speech crossed acceptable limits. He criticized the use of examples that he claimed were inappropriately linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning the message such remarks send to newly elected MPs.

Paswan further remarked that the speech risked undermining the seriousness expected from a constitutional position, adding that it may have weakened Rahul Gandhi’s standing even within his own party. He said that the role of the opposition is vital in a democracy, but should be exercised with responsibility and constructive intent.

Expressing strong dissatisfaction, Paswan said that if the Leader of Opposition chooses to make light of serious parliamentary proceedings, it raises concerns about his suitability for the role. He emphasized that debates in Parliament should focus on meaningful discussion and accountability rather than rhetoric.

In the same context, Paswan also spoke about the Women’s Reservation Bill, urging lawmakers across party lines to support it. He said that members of Parliament should vote according to their conscience, highlighting the importance of the legislation in expanding women’s representation in governance.

He warned that any further delay in passing the bill could lead to public dissatisfaction, noting that a significant section of the population is closely watching the outcome. According to him, the bill represents a long-pending reform that has the potential to bring transformative change in India’s political landscape.

Paswan that ensuring greater participation of women in legislative bodies is essential for inclusive and balanced policymaking, and called for collective responsibility in advancing the measure.

Chirag Paswan’s remarks reflect the sharp political exchanges in Parliament, while also underscoring the broader significance of the Women’s Reservation Bill in shaping India’s democratic future.
