NEW DELHI, INDIA — Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has raised strong concerns over the issue of delimitation, alleging that it could significantly alter the country’s political landscape under the broader framework of women’s reservation.
Speaking in Delhi, Raut said that the proposed changes are being carried out “under the guise of women’s reservation,” and warned that such steps could lead to a major shift in political representation across states. He suggested that the process, if not handled carefully, could create imbalances and tensions between different regions of the country.
Referring to the response from southern states, Raut noted that several leaders have already expressed concerns about the potential impact of delimitation on their political representation. He cautioned that ignoring these concerns could lead to serious political consequences.
In a strong statement, Raut warned that such developments might create unrest, drawing a comparison to sensitive situations like Manipur, and expressed fears that similar tensions could arise in southern states if the issue is not addressed through dialogue and consensus.
He also called on leaders from the region to take a stand, specifically mentioning Chandrababu Naidu and M K Stalin. Raut suggested that regional leaders should oppose any delimitation process that they believe could negatively impact their states’ interests.
The remarks come amid an ongoing national debate over delimitation and its linkage with the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill. Opposition leaders have raised concerns about fairness, representation, and federal balance, while the government has maintained that the process will follow constitutional provisions.
Sanjay Raut’s comments add to the intensifying political discourse around delimitation, highlighting concerns from opposition parties about its potential impact on regional representation and national political dynamics.
